EOS S.p.A. was founded in June 2006 by Silvano Spinelli, Gabriella Camboni, and Ennio Cavalletti along with Jacques Theurillat. The company’s operations were seed-financed by founders and by Sofinnova Partners since its inception. EOS is a privately held organization headquartered in Via Monte di Pietà, 1/A, Milano, Italy.

EOS believes that the main bottleneck preventing the efficient conversion of cancer discovery into better medicine is the translational research gap. Research on innovative drugs requires smart selection of projects that should be developed with rigour and discipline, and should reach the late stage of clinical development only if they stand a realistic chance of substantial benefit to patients. Because of the continuing advances in cancer research the current paradigm built around straightforward, response-based general criteria should shift to a more sophisticated process centred on target specific and significant preclinical models integrated into clinical development. This latter should be founded on a careful definition of the target patient population and based on early predictors of clinical benefit. EOS is particularly well equipped to address this challenge, in that it can provide development competences, including clinical expertise, already built into the very early phases.
From operational standpoint, EOS has chosen a very lean internal structure, retaining only the strategic skills and activities in-house, while relying on outsourcing and networking for accessing the most suitable options on a timely and flexible manner.
